What National Adoption Week Looks Like Behind the Scenes
It’s a week when our teams hit the road, traveling across the country to be boots on the ground alongside our adoption partners. You’ll find us in stores, at adoption centers, anywhere we can help more pets meet more people. And because many of those trips include stays at pet-friendly hotels, we often open those temporary doors to foster pets, giving them a short but meaningful break from shelter life.
Those in-between moments matter. A quieter place to rest. A chance to observe how a dog behaves outside the shelter. Little insights we can pass along to future adopters, things that help make the right match.
A Foster Dog Named Lady Anne
While traveling in Denver, our team member Rhiannon did exactly that, opening her heart (and her temporary home) to Lady Anne, a lovable dog from our adoption partner, Animal Friends Alliance. What started as a short-term foster quickly became an unforgettable experience.
From neighborhood walks to playful afternoons and even a cozy hotel slumber party, Lady Anne embraced every moment of love and attention. With each belly rub and tail wag, her personality began to shine brighter and brighter.
The Adoption That Took a Little Longer
Rhiannon had high hopes of seeing Lady Anne meet her forever family at the Westminster PetSmart Charities Everyday Adoption Center grand opening. But sometimes, the perfect match just needs a little more time.
As our team headed home from Denver, we felt confident Lady Anne’s story wasn’t over, it was just getting started.
And sure enough, just a few days later, it happened.
Two adopters walked into the store, met Lady Anne, and instantly knew: she was the one. That magical, undeniable connection we hope for in every adoption story came to life right before their eyes.
Why Fostering Helps Pets Find the Right Home
Today, Lady Anne is thriving in her forever home, living her very best life.
Her journey is a powerful reminder that fostering isn’t just about providing temporary care, it’s about giving pets the chance to relax, reveal their true selves, and connect with the families they’re meant for.
Because sometimes, all it takes is a little love, a little patience…and one very special foster moment to change everything.
And with support from people like you, even more pets like Lady Anne get that chance.
